We have memories?

Today when walking out of High School, my friend who is honestly the only person from that place that I care about ever seeing again, says "You know what? This last semester is almost over"

I say back "Yea that's awesome! However I wont get to see you everyday anymore"

This is someone that I walk into school with, walk out school with, eat lunch with sometimes, went to stores together to wasted time and have talked to seriously online. Honestly he is the closest friend at my High School that I have.

What do you expect him to say back? "We can still hangout" or "No, we'll still see each other" or "We should hangout sometime" right?

He says back "Well at-least we got memories" and walks off. I know it was just words but still shocked me. I mean he has no intention of seeing me again and has no plans of ever hanging out.

Does this mean he does not think of me as a friend?

I mean yea, me and him have had sorta fun in class and at lunch talking, had lots of fun eating at Burger King but I would of enjoyed hanging out with him. Too bad I guess.
